Complex attribute data in USD (Levi/Jeremiah, Matthew Kuruc)
Santa Monica Studio's question: Has anybody had further considered complex/compound attributes (effectively structs) in USD since the last time it was brought up?
Didn't seem like anybody had pursued this idea further.
Santa Monica Studio's use case is that we have their own description of data classes that can nest structs, and they'd like to represent those in some way in USD.
Especially since we automate creating schemas from these data classes.
they wondered whether USD could be extensible for attributes like it is for other things.
Levi Biasco believes Matthew Kuruc noted that there are potential issues when it comes to serialization and interpolation
Matthew Kuruc offered some suggestions with existing USD tech:
These structs could be represented as multiple-apply schemas that get added to the original classes.
Santa Monica Studio considered this, but it falls apart with nested structs.
A new attribute type called "group" whose purpose is to indicate which other attributes under a prim that are relevant to each other.
Santa Monica Studio haven't looked into this as much, but this may be difficult to have work with preexisting structs like a multiple-apply schema could.
