Asset & Render Colorspace feedback / finalization

  • Would like to move the “draft” to “final”

  • Should publish blog on ASWF + AOUSD

  • For the final publish:

    • Use CIF repo for publish

    • Markdown would be easiest, supported by GitHub

    • MaterialX already uses this for its specification

    • Should check to see what SMPTE does

    • AOUSD is also using markdown

  • Carol will put a PR up in markdown for feedback

  • Should we try to submit this standard anywhere else?

    • Kurt will share with the cultural heritage community

    • Nick can cross-post with the game developer communities

    • IS&T - Carol will talk to Suzanne & Nicolas

    • Get a press release out as a first step ASAP

CLF Mime type

  • CLF: Common LUT Format. Going through SMPTE standardization currently. Drafting is pretty much done, going out for feedback soon.

  • Proposal:  "application/vnd.aces.clf+xml"

    • If you put the +xml in the label, it indicates it has an xml sidecar?

    • Or does it mean that the mime type itself is xml?

    • Need to do more research on what the + means

    • If there’s another option other than vnd.aces for the subtype - vnd.smpte?

    • Do we need the second word? Can we just do vnd.cfl+xml?

    • From Kurt: https://www.color.org/profile_embedding.xalter#:~:text=ICC%20profiles%20have%20the%20mime,iccprofile

    • Kurt: do we see a future where there are other formats for CLF? i.e. JSON?

    • Or is it purely for a hint about format?

    • Two suggestions, will send out for feedback:

      • application/vnd.clf+xml

      • application/vnd.common.lut.format+xml

  • Doug asked in the SMPTE drafting group if people had thoughts around mime types, will follow up with these suggestions to get feedback

  • Similar: DPX has one, ACES 2065-1 has one, but there doesn’t seem to be a standard for non-image types. ICC Profile might be the closest.

Next work items / meetings

  • Open to new work items, please submit on CIF GitHub

  • As we’ll have work to do publishing/marketing the final spec, and also we’re about to enter the holiday season, we are cancelling the November and December instances of the CIF.

  • Next meeting will be in January!

  • We’ll work async and schedule a call if needed for the deliverables.
