BoF planning

Add an "xdr-video" encoding for color spaces such as Display P3 HDR?

  • Additional option to delineate XDR from HDR

  • Is XDR the right name? EDR? Please add thoughts

  • Applications use these encodings to help with operations like menus, also Viewing Rules, how to do things like scaling and reformatting etc

  • Remi - can we associate an encoding with a view transform?

  • Zach - that’s a slightly different thing, but in a correctly built config, you should be able to get the encoding from the display color space associated with the view

Zach "equality group" idea

  • For configs prior to 2.5, we could possibly use the equality group to back port the functionality

  • It’s not 1:1, but might work to help enable use of this new functionality in older versions

  • Library version of course would still need to be 2.5+ in order to understand interop IDs

  • Doug - right now, if you were to load a 2.1 config with an interop_id, it would just get ignored - we should maybe update this in the current PR

  • Soft adoption is something we should consider, to help folks adopt new features more quickly
