The team discussed Peter's absence and the progress of JPEG 2000 compression analysis. They also addressed issues with the new format's behavior, compression problems with large EXR files, and the potential for testing other lossless compression methods. The team plans to obtain a sample file with around 130 layers to analyze further and improve compression efficiency.

Next Steps

  • Vlad to continue profiling and analyzing the new JPEG 2000 compression, focusing on the layer where HD 256 is 3 times the size of ZIP.

  • Cary and team to provide Michael with an actual file containing 130 AOVs for further analysis.

  • Vlad to compare JPEG 2000 compression with PIZ compression in addition to ZIP.

  • Michael to parse the HTG 2K EXR file and decode the GJ 2K file once the data is available.

  • Vlad to investigate the issue with accessing the sample count table when writing the compressor in DPXR, consulting with Peter or Kimball for guidance.

  • Cary and team to prepare and share a public example file demonstrating the compression behavior they're observing.
