Introduction of Geoff Evans
Geoff is working at nVidia.
He is helping a lot at GDC. He is working for the tools roundtable.
He wants to reach out us to help finding new talks with USD.
Here are some general themes :
How people integrated USD
What an ideal integration would look like
Robin-Yann Storm submitted a proposal for an USD rountable : https://academysoftwarefdn.slack.com/archives/C03GKF4DG7K/p1690315552229349?thread_ts=1689142249.186199&cid=C03GKF4DG7K
If there is any new topics, please reach out Geoff Evans
NameSpace Editing proposal
https://github.com/PixarAnimationStudios/OpenUSD-proposals/tree/main/proposals/namespace_editing
Corey Revilla from Pixar explained the NameSpace Editing proposal.
They wanted to do a proposal based on what worked in Presto.
Feedbacks:
could we have signals to know what happened:
try to have signal in the API
avoid a performance hit
What about the relocate of files?
They will try to have an extensive API.
Moving the layers is not really supported for now.Edit will happen throug h a single layer.
Performance :
is there any performance issues?
The biggest challenge is the third party librarby usage.
The usage of multi threading.
For a non impacting asset, it will be fast.
Undo/Redo:
it is something to consider even it is not in the proposal.
supporting undo/redo is not in the roadmap
It is more at an application level than at USD level
@Thomas Trently suggested to use the listening. Maybe we could use the SceneDelegate
Validations follow up
@Aaron Luk and @Alexander Schwank are still checking with legal where to put them.
