Agenda
2022 SLP Mentee/Mentor Feedback
D&I Landing Page Redesign
National Science Fair
SLP Survey (Karen)
80% was right amount of time (an improvement from last year) - 50% getting through two courses
Mentors increase our confidence
Appreciation on self paced learning
Structure for mentor/mentee conversations - need to be explicit on this
Slack channel was not as active - potential tips to network and make connections…it was quiet compared to last year.
We lost a lot of momentum cuz they could not get started and it was hard to get it back
It took a while to install Maya on Linux since I was a beginner and I didn't know that the user had to configure it.
Get a concrete idea of what topics they are interested in
Even a short course everyone can do together
Formalize operations/program managing
Potential LIVE event to bring together the mentees
Mentor feedback
70% felt they had positive impact on their mentee
Joy in mentoring and passion for industry they work in
Better matching this year
Structure the milestones - can mentors have access to SLP slack channel
Positive experience
As we grow, we will need to pull on mentors that we don’t directly know
Consider creating a sub-committee
Ideas for mentors on what to do
An idea “Friday Free Days” - less formal, a space to meet others in industry…or mini panels…mentors leading something monthly for the cohort
Refine team lead structure - conscious grouping (cohort structure)
Feedback! We need calendar and actions before summer starts
Feedback! Would pre-form platform be better but work with your mentor to work through syllabus..Udemy could be a “gift” to do on your own time
Lead time? January? The longest piece is the platforms we are using and how long will this take.
Moving forward with structure idea…have post mortem period - let it rest and come back in January?
We should learn externally on how to prep for next summer
Focus on Neurodiversity and could be a front runner for next year’s focus group.
Can we provide a broad definition of neurodiversity or if it’s self identify …would have to be self-identify
Could we bring these resources to help with mentors too so they can bring back to their companies
A good reason to focus here because there is not much out there

NOTE from chat:
Kaitlin asked Dhruv if there was an update for python 3 yet. Dhruv responded "I do note. Apple has strict rules on side stuff, but I can ask if I can release an update to it for Maya 2022/2023 but I generally just point out the differences early on in the course if I remember correctly."
