OCIO Config Working Group Meeting Notes
CLF format review:
Michael: Invited Sean (ARRI) to review the CLF document to provide feedback in future meeting. He will also share it with Joseph for feedback.
Update: Joseph is part of IDT VWG, so may be present for presentation next week to give feedback.
Presenting at IDT VWG next week:
October 5th, 4 EST: Doug and Carol will join to present work on ACES configs and CLF process proposal.
Kevin: Typically discussion not around those type of things, but good place to talk through it.
Carol: Don't want to step on IDT groups toes. Want to collaborate. Have been focusing on details around creating IDTs for various cameras, but haven't gotten into the details of the process. Have been talking about whether CLF could play a part, but some back and forth. If we say we're going to be using CLF, a strong argument.
Michael: What gaps are there between CLF and CTF?
Carol: Some algorithms need 3d LUT representation. Gamut compression limitation.
Doug: Looking to put together the historical transforms, which are matrices and 1D LUTs primarily. The IDTs we're expecting to receive are very similar to those, representable in CLF without issue.
Kevin: Last meeting was discussion around recovering tonescale from blackbox cameras. Processing to extract it was proof of concept. Good opportunity to make sure things aren't too incompatible. Good to encourage blackbox cameras to be fitted to function.
Michael: Collaborating is good opportunity to share mutually beneficial data with other projects. Could be similar to ASWF asset project in the sense of having a database of CLF data for any usage.
Alternating time zone?
Daylight savings season is here again. Can change meeting time if needed.
Michael: Some groups have alternating times to better support global participation. Something to consider?
Carol: Worked well for gamut compression group. Ends up being every week for meeting leaders, repeating content for different time zones.
TODO: Discuss meeting time in Slack
